28th Amendment

For my amendment, I would propose to add the 28th amendment would be to lower the drinking age to 18. Our legal smoking age is 18 also so why not make the drinking age the same. 70 and 80 countries in the world right now have the legal drinking age at the age of 18. Eighteen is our legal age where you become an adult, so we should have the right to make decisions about drinking alcohol or not.  Most people who drink before 21 feel like rebels and want to break the law. This would diminish the thrill of breaking the law. When the repeal of alcohol by the 21st amendment, allowed each state to set its own laws on alcohol; the Supreme Court made the states that lowered their drinking age to rise the age back to 21. I believe that we should lower the national drinking age to 18. This could possibly stop some of the breaking of the laws.

  1. I like this Amendment Shelby! It would save younger kids especially in high school and college a lot of trouble! Maybe if the drinking age was lower, younger kids would wait to drink because the wait is so much shorter.

  2. this amendment is by far probly the best one. they need to have this amdendment because there are a lot of people have started to drink when they are younger. more people start this kind of stuff while there young. so its better to have is so less court dates and everything from drinking. I still am against people driving home after drinking but I think it is fine to drink at 18.

  3. I feel that the drinking age should stay where it's at. I feel that if kids want to drink at a younger age, it could cause some, not all kids, to get in trouble. One reason why I think this is because, at the age you aren't as mature and don't make the right decisions sometimes. I feel that people who are older are able to make better decisions.

  4. It may help kids prepare for college but it's a subject that has pros and cons! It also may be pretty dangerous because maybe some kids aren't mature enough. Otherwise, good blog!

  5. I disagree with your point because I believe it shouldn't be that low due to kids being able to drink in high school. With kids playing sports they need to be disciplined and drinking could break up a team. I believe it should not be this low.

  7. I disagree, why can't young people be just use their heads and not break the laws? If you drink and get caught it's your fault and no one else's. Maybe the punishments need to be harsher than they are now to stop the breaking of the laws.

  9. This is no. No. NO. As a high school student that does not drink or has no desire to drink this would not affect me directly. Lets face it, alcohol consumption leads to stupid decisions and can lead to serious problems. While it may not seem like a problem the first couple times, at this age, it is likely to lead to addiction. At this immature state in life, we are susceptible to the influences of everyone around us. What is the point of lowering the drinking age if "we" already have access it. Lastly, if you want to stop this 'breaking of the laws' then DO NOT BREAK THE FREAKING LAW!!!
